: INFORME ESPECIAL SOBRE ENERGÍA NUCLEAR EN EL ESTE EUROPEO

Bratislava, June 22 (SLOVAKIA)- The proposal of the Slovak nuclear energy concept assumes that the third and fourth blocks in the Mochovce nuclear power plant will not be completed and that Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power plant V1 will be closed down between 2010 and 2012, Slovak Economy Minister Ludovit Cernak told a press conference in Bratislava on Tuesday. The Economy Ministry approved this proposal after thorough consideration of economic and environmental aspects in the energy sector, and focused on Slovakia's integration efforts to join the European Union countries. The direct closure of V1 in Jaslovske Bohunice would mean gradual accretion of annual losses amounting to Sk5-6 billion and Slovakia cannot afford this in its current economic situation. The compensation for its liquidation offered by the Austrian Cabinet in the value of 0.5 billion Schillings is definitely too little, Cernak said. The compensation of the investment resources spent for the third and fourth blocks in Mochovce, worth Sk14 billion, and other additional expenses to accomplish the complex proposal of the reduction of nuclear energy industry will be paid by the state fund for the liquidation of nuclear energy industry and via a non-interest loan from Austria to cover half of the total outlay. These expenses, burdening the whole energy sector in Slovakia, should not be reflected in the increase of the price of electric power for consumers or in the increase of the indebtedness of Slovak Power (SE) affiliates, Cernak added.
